Moving Checklist

  • Make arrangements with a moving company or a rental truck company.
  • Clean your furniture and items and discard any items you no longer have a use for.
  • Donate unwanted furniture or clothing to a charitable foundation.
  • Obtain a change of address card from usps.com or pick one up from the post office.
  • Notify utility providers, cable providers, credit card companies of your new address.
  • Schedule a date for your utilities to be discounted, if possible, keep utilities in service until a day after move day.
  • Schedule a date to have your utilities at your new address, try to have them connected a few days before your more.
  • Notify your moving company as to any changes in dates or other changes that could affect your move.
  • Be sure to check for errors on your moving confirmation and phone numbers where you can be reached.
  • Gather packing supplies such as: boxes (from small to large), packing tape, bubble wrap, paper wrap, plastic wrap, moving blankets, and mattress bags.
  • Make arrangements for cleaning of your present apartment.
  • In a separate box pack some items that will be important for the first day or so when you move into your new residence, such as dishes, soap, towels, snacks, tissue, laptop, toys and a lamp.
